How to get your brand recommended by ChatGPT and other AI assistants

You cannot buy your way into an AI recommendation. You earn it by being clearly described, widely cited and easy for a model to read. Here is how.

To get recommended by ChatGPT, you need the model to see your brand as a credible, clearly described option that other sources already talk about. There is no ad slot and no setting to toggle. The model recommends what it has learned to trust from reading the open web. So the work is making that picture of you accurate, consistent and strong.

The honest version: you cannot trick a language model with keywords or hidden text. What moves it is real presence. Be described the same way everywhere, be mentioned by sources it already trusts, and make your own pages easy to read and quote.

1. Make your brand description consistent everywhere

A model builds one picture of you from many places: your site, your social profiles, directories, reviews and press. If each describes you differently, the picture blurs and you get left out. Decide in one or two sentences exactly what you do and who for, then make sure that same description appears consistently across every profile and listing you own. Consistency is what lets a model treat all your mentions as one trusted entity.

2. Get cited by sources the model already trusts

AI assistants lean heavily on third party signals: press coverage, respected industry sites, review platforms and active communities. Being talked about in those places matters more than anything you say about yourself. A single credible review roundup or a mention in a trusted publication can do more for your AI visibility than a month of on page tweaks. Earned coverage and genuine reviews are the strongest lever you have.

3. Answer the real questions on your own site

When a model looks for something to quote, it reaches for pages that answer a question directly. Lead with the answer in the first line. Use clear headings. Include specific numbers, comparisons and plain facts. How to guides, honest comparisons and data backed pages get picked up far more than vague marketing copy. Write the page you would want the AI to read aloud.

4. Make your pages machine readable

Add structured data so a model can correctly read your organisation, services, reviews and FAQs. Keep the site fast and clean so crawlers reach the content. If your most important information only appears after scripts run, some crawlers will never see it. The easier you are to parse, the more liftable you become.

5. Map the exact questions buyers ask

Start from the phrases your customers actually type into an AI before they buy. Tools like Google Search Console, communities like Reddit, and simply asking your own customers all surface these. Then build a clear answer to each. You are not guessing at keywords. You are covering the real questions that lead to a recommendation.

6. Measure whether it is working

Ask the assistants the questions a buyer would, across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and record whether you are named. Track that over time. That share of answers is the real scoreboard, and it tells you where to push next.

None of this is a trick. It is the same principle that has always driven reputation, pointed at a new reader. Be clear about who you are, earn genuine credibility, and make yourself easy to quote.

Common questions

Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?

No. There is no paid placement inside an AI assistant's organic answer. Recommendations are earned from how the model reads your presence across the web, which is why consistent description, third party citations and readable pages matter.

Does schema markup make ChatGPT recommend me?

Schema helps by making your pages easier for a model to read and understand correctly, but on its own it is not enough. It works alongside a strong, consistent brand footprint and genuine third party credibility, not instead of them.

My brand is small. Can I still get recommended?

Yes, but expect it to take longer. Models favour businesses they can already read a lot about, so a smaller brand should focus first on consistent descriptions, earning a few credible mentions, and answering a tight set of real buyer questions well.
